Spooky wreaths or pumpkins across the porch? Witchy sculptures or gourds all over? With Halloween comes decoration choices and challenges, from what goes on the front door to how much of your lawn to cover with spiderwebs, signs, lanterns, and more. The front porch, door, and entryway are where we make our first impressions, so let’s start there.

“When styling a front porch for Halloween, I recommend starting with a beautiful wreath for your door. A wreath really sets the mood for the season,” says Kelly Lambert, senior merchant for seasonal at home decor and furnishings company Grandin Road. “Always take some time to separate elements in your greenery to achieve a nice full look, as a little care will go a long way.”

With inspiration from Grandin Road’s experts and its “Choose Your Spooky Style” feature this year, we’ve taken some of the guesswork out of how to decorate your porch when the time comes with a breakdown of some of our favorite Halloween styles.

We may feel spooky and want to bring a little fright to our neighborhood. But sometimes the classic pumpkin look for autumn is the perfect touch. (Plus, “you can never have too many pumpkins,” according to Lambert.) But in the end, we can take a little bit from each style to create something unique to us.

“Maybe you’re more wicked, or more gothic, or a little classic,” says Lambert, “but you can take different looks and mix them together, or any piece can stand on its own. You don’t have to stick to a strict style.”

Whether we’re welcoming our own families home from a trick-or-treat sprint down the block, or showing off our front lawns to passersby, small touches make the holiday come alive.
