Hello from Sunset Home & Design,
A charming 1934 cottage in the Glenoaks Canyon neighborhood of Los Angeles had been in the same family for a long time and it hadn’t been touched for more than 50 years. But when a young couple purchased the home (which was still in pretty good condition), they wanted to give the space a modern update and make it their own without taking away any of the home’s original charm.
They recruited Rachel Bullock of L.A.-based architecture, furniture, and interiors studio LAUN to oversee the transformation. “Our focus was to improve the flow, add brightness, infuse the space with natural light, and add a stronger connection to the outdoors,” she says.
Rachel and team got to work by completely overhauling the segmented floor plan, like removing the existing den to create a larger kitchen and removing a series of interior hallways and doors to better connect the rooms. A warm color palette and curved lines were used throughout the home to create design cohesion. Now the home is modern, yet still charming and inviting. Take a tour here.
