If you've always thought that birdwatching sounded boring, well, you've never watched these birds.
Big Bear, California's beloved bald eagle pair, Jackie and Shadow, are in the process of welcoming new chicks to their family. And they're doing it reality TV-style, in front of cameras that anyone can tune into at any time of the day or night.
As I write, I'm stealing looks as often as possible at the nest cam, hoping to catch a glimpse of the two fluffy eaglets born earlier this week, and of a possible third that may be out of its shell by the time you read this. (It's been seen slowly chipping its way free, but this "pipping" process often lasts more than a day, so there's no telling when it will officially be fully hatched.)
Unlike reality TV, this is 100% real life, and the storyline has no guaranteed happy ending. But that's what makes the action so riveting—no rose ceremonies, immunity idols, or sashaying away needed. Click here to see what I mean. I guarantee you'll quickly be enthralled, waiting to see what treats devoted dad Shadow brings back to the nest, and rooting for the plucky little third chick. Birdwatching has never been this high-stakes. (Or, frankly, this adorable.)
