If you think the idea of dedicating a bit of your home's precious square footage to resting is a little indulgent, well, I get it. I look around my own small house and I admit that it's hard to see what nook I could claw back from the demands of everyday life and devote to doing not much of anything. But after reading this week's featured article on rest corners, I'm inspired to try.
Less than a meditation room, more than just a comfy chair, the rest corner is an idea whose time has come. All you need is some cushions or a nice upholstered seat, some mood lighting, and a place to put your relaxing beverage of choice. Now you've got a refuge from everyday domestic demands—no piles of bills, no dirty dishes or unfolded laundry, just a place to gather yourself and maybe read a book or sit quietly with no thought of having to entertain anyone.
What space do I have to spare for my own rest corner? I'm not sure, but sometimes the question is not "how can I afford to do this?" but "how can I afford not to?"
