![]() Fishing has always been an important part of my life. When I was young, I cherished joining my dad on his early-morning trips. We would sail for hours, letting classic rock drown out the ocean as our chum floated down the waves, patiently waiting for that first bite.
Fishing taught me patience, how important it is to wait for the good things to come to you. It taught me to be kind to our earth, to catch and release when necessary and the power these mighty fish had by the work it took to reel one in.
At Sunset, we’re celebrating the spirit of fishing in our Waters of the West issue, featuring our cover story that takes you on a fly fishing trip through Montana. Whether you're fishing the backcountry of Montana or the open ocean, let the sounds of your fishing trip drown out your worries of tomorrow. Head into the garage, pick up the tackle box, and start fishing for memories of a lifetime.
Plus: We want to see how you fish in the West! Sunset has partnered with California Trout for a photo contest. So send us your photos of fishing experiences in California’s rivers, streams, and more: These can include fish, anglers, or others enjoying California waters. Photos will be judged on how well they depict the spirit of California waters and/or the sport of fly-fishing along with artistic merit (lighting, color, composition). You can submit your photos here until Aug. 31. Good luck and fish on!
Safe travels, —Teaghan Skulszki, Travel Newsletter Editor If you’ve never experienced a Yeti product, we have one thing to tell you: Believe the hype. Seriously, these mugs and tumblers are ideal for anyone who appreciates a hot and/or cold beverage—the vacuum-sealed stainless steel design maintains whatever you’re drinking at its original temperature for what seems like hours. Not only that, they’re easy to clean and nigh indestructible, so whether you’re throwing them in a backpack for a camping excursion or just feeling, you know, occasionally clumsy, you can be sure the mugs will remain undamaged.
And finally—ahem—they come in our signature orange color, with the Sunset logo stenciled on one side, so you can show off your pride in the West and help support this fine publication at the same time.
One last time: We own these ourselves, we love them, and we think you’ll love them, too.
