![]() Oh, how stressful mid-December can be! Maybe it’s just me but it feels like the month is flying by and between holiday parties and New Year's Eve planning I’ve barely allotted myself the time to make dinner each night. However, on those rare nights that I find myself at home with nothing to do but read old Chez Panisse pasta cookbooks, I muster up the energy to whip up something delicious. I’ll personally be making a batch of mussels with hazelnut herb butter for an indulgent solo dinner date this week.
If you’re lucky enough to see the start of crab season this month in California, make a beeline to your local fishmonger to get a few Dungeness crabs before they’re gone for the year. Boil and crack the crab before tossing the meat in a citrus butter sauce or take the time to remove the shell and mix crab chunks into creamy mac and cheese (which is sure to make you forget about the busy weeks ahead). Shuck and Sip with Chandon and Food 52’s Taste of the Bay Holiday Collaboration ![]() Everything you need to enjoy an indulgent oyster feast at home is in this kit. If you’ve ever wanted to feel a little fancy and enjoy fresh oysters in the comfort of your own home (where we enjoy most things these days), Chandon and Food 52 have worked together to make that happen with ease. In the brands' recent joining of forces, they’ve curated a box of fresh oysters, shucking gloves, a shucking knife, and a bottle of Chandon By the Bay (with sauces and special treats to enjoy alongside) delivered to your door. “While By The Bay pairs beautifully with a variety of holiday favorites, foodie tradition dictates that oysters are at their best in months with the letter ‘r’,” says Pauline Lhote, Chandon winemaker, in a press release about the pairing. Shucking oysters at home is a great and easy skill to learn; once you have the gloves and proper tools on hand you’ll be sure to start picking some oysters up when you find them available—plus the dozen that come in the kit are the perfect number to practice on!
